1st Edition — University of the Azores 3MT®

The first edition of the University of the Azores 3MT® was launched by the Okeanos Institute of Marine Science and took place on 19 May 2025 at Teatro Faialense, on Faial Island.

The event brought together six candidates, who took on the challenge of presenting their research in just 3 minutes, using a single slide and language accessible to a non-specialist audience.

More than an academic competition, the first edition demonstrated the potential of 3MT® as a science communication initiative and as a way of strengthening connections between the University and society. The visibility generated by the event helped spark interest among the wider community in the research being carried out at the University of the Azores, particularly the work of its early-career researchers.

The first edition, held on Faial, marked the beginning of this journey. The aim is now to build on this first experience and bring the University of the Azores 3MT® to the other two islands where the University is based, São Miguel and Terceira, strengthening its regional reach and bringing science closer to communities across the archipelago.
